About EV Charger Installation

Home EV Charger Installation You Can Trust

A home EV charger should make life easier — not give you something else to worry about. At Electric-Cal Solutions, we provide fully certified EV charger installation in Worksop and the surrounding area, including Retford, Mansfield, Doncaster, Sheffield and across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Whether you’ve just taken delivery of a new electric vehicle or you’re planning ahead before you switch, our qualified team will fit your charger properly the first time, leave it tested and certified, and walk you through how to use it before we leave.

As a NICEIC-approved electrician with full OZEV registration, every home EV charger installation is carried out to the latest 18th edition wiring regulations. That means a properly sized dedicated circuit, the right cabling for the load your charger will draw, and the correct safety protection on your consumer unit — the things that keep your charger running safely for years. We work with most leading EV charger brands and will happily talk you through which option fits your car, your driveway and your day-to-day usage. Based in Worksop, we cover the whole area locally — so when you book, you’re booking a local installer, not a national call centre.

Why a Qualified Electrician Matters for EV Charging

A home EV charger draws far more power than any normal household appliance — typically 7.4 kW running on a dedicated circuit. That makes it notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations, which means it has to be installed by a qualified, registered electrician and signed off properly. Get it wrong and you risk overloading your consumer unit, voiding your home insurance, losing your eligibility for the OZEV grant, or in the worst cases creating a real fire risk. None of those are things to take chances on.

We handle the entire installation end-to-end — site survey, charger and cable selection, dedicated circuit installation, test and certification, and the OZEV grant paperwork (worth up to £350 off the cost of your installation if you’re eligible). Most jobs are completed in a single day. If your existing fuse box can’t safely take the extra load, we can also upgrade your consumer unit at the same time so the whole installation is done in one visit. EV charger installation cost varies depending on cable run length, charger model and whether your fuse box needs work — which is why every quote is free, no-obligation, and based on your actual property rather than a generic price list. EV Charger Installation Costs

Most home EV charger installations in Worksop fall in the £800–£1,200 range, fitted and certified. The OZEV grant can knock up to £350 off if you’re eligible. Final cost depends on:

  • Charger model and brand you choose
  • Cable run distance from your fuse box to the charging point
  • Whether your existing consumer unit needs upgrading
  • OZEV grant eligibility (up to £350 off your installation)

Every quote is free, no-obligation, and based on your actual property — never a generic price list.

Reviews

Callum Umpleby

Awesome service, from choosing what we needed doing and professional recommendations to implementing our plan! Wont be going anywhere else for electrical services in Worksop.

Emma

Callum came to do the electrics down to our Summerhouse in 2021. The work was carried out on time and to a high standard. Everything was left neat and tidy, you would never have known he had been there. He did a wonderful job and as a result has done work for several of our neighbours too.

Jor

Callum completed our 1st and 2nd fix for our extension, advising on all aspects of lighting and electrical gadgetry. Wouldn’t use anyone else for our electrical works. He later completed a full install in the shed with great safety features

Rachael

Very professional service and such a pleasant guy. We would definitely recommend Callum.

FAQs

Yes — without exception. Home EV charger installation is notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations, which means it must be carried out by a qualified electrician and certified at completion. For OZEV grant eligibility (up to £350 off your installation cost), the installer also needs to be specifically OZEV-registered. We’re both NICEIC-approved and OZEV-registered, so we cover both requirements as standard. Trying to install one yourself or using an unregistered fitter will void your insurance and disqualify you from the grant.

Most straightforward home EV charger installations are completed in a single day — typically three to five hours from arrival to handover. That includes mounting the charger unit, running the cable to your consumer unit, fitting the dedicated circuit and protection, testing the installation, and certifying the work. Jobs that need a consumer unit upgrade, longer cable runs through walls, or trenching to a detached garage may take a little longer, but we’ll always tell you that up front during the free quote — no surprises on the day.

A typical home EV charger installation in Worksop and the surrounding area starts from around £800 to £1,200 including the charger unit itself, fitted and certified. The OZEV grant can knock up to £350 off that figure if you’re eligible. Final cost depends on the charger model you choose, how far the cable run is from your fuse box to your parking spot, and whether your existing consumer unit needs upgrading. Every quote is free, fixed and no-obligation.

Many older consumer units don’t have the spare capacity or the modern protection an EV charger circuit requires. As part of the free quote we’ll inspect your fuse box and tell you straight whether it needs upgrading. If it does, we can fit a compliant new consumer unit at the same time as the charger so the whole job is sorted in one visit, with one set of certificates and one quote — rather than two separate visits and the disruption that comes with it.

If you have off-street parking, own or lease an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, and use an OZEV-registered installer (we are), you can claim up to £350 towards the cost of your charger installation. We handle the OZEV paperwork as part of the installation, so you don’t have to deal with the application yourself — the discount is simply applied to your invoice. The grant won’t be around forever, so it’s worth getting your installation booked while it’s still available.
