About EV Charger Installation

Home EV Charger Installation You Can Trust

With more drivers switching to electric every year, a home charge point has become one of the more sensible things you can add to a house. Public chargers are often busy, expensive or nowhere near where you need them. Charging at home means the car is ready for the morning.

We install home EV chargers across Worksop, Retford, Mansfield, Sheffield, Rotherham and the surrounding area. Every installation is designed to comply with the current BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and the charger manufacturer’s requirements, then tested, certificated and notified under Part P. Based in Worksop, so when you book you get a local installer rather than a national call centre.

Is Your Home Suitable for an EV Charger?

Most properties with off-road parking, a driveway or a garage are suitable. Whether it is a modern detached house, a semi or an older property, we carry out a full site survey first to work out the safest and most practical way to do it. During the survey we look at:

  • Where you park and where the charger needs to go
  • Cable routing options
  • The condition of your existing electrical installation
  • Spare capacity in your consumer unit
  • Your earthing arrangement
  • Wi-Fi coverage, if you want the smart features to work properly

Plenty of consumer units were never designed to carry the extra load of a car charger. Common problems are older boards with rewireable fuses, no RCD or RCBO protection, and no spare ways. If yours needs replacing we can upgrade the consumer unit at the same time, which saves a second visit and gets everything signed off together.

If you have solar panels, a charger that prioritises surplus generation will cut your running costs further. If you are on an off-peak tariff, a smart charger set to charge overnight does the same. We will recommend the right charger for your car, your property and how you actually use it. Get a free quote.

EV Charger Installation Costs

Most home EV charger installations fall between £900 and £2,000, fitted, tested and certificated. What moves the price:

  • How far the cable has to run from the consumer unit to the charger
  • The charger you choose
  • Whether the consumer unit needs upgrading first
  • Any groundwork, for example a run to a detached garage

A standard installation is usually done within a few hours. It covers the dedicated circuit, the protective devices, safe cable routing, commissioning, electrical testing, NICEIC certification and Part P notification where it applies. We will also show you how to use the charger and set up the smart features before we leave.

Every quote is free, no obligation, and based on your actual property rather than a generic price list.

Reviews

Callum Umpleby

Awesome service, from choosing what we needed doing and professional recommendations to implementing our plan! Wont be going anywhere else for electrical services in Worksop.

Emma

Callum came to do the electrics down to our Summerhouse in 2021. The work was carried out on time and to a high standard. Everything was left neat and tidy, you would never have known he had been there. He did a wonderful job and as a result has done work for several of our neighbours too.

Jor

Callum completed our 1st and 2nd fix for our extension, advising on all aspects of lighting and electrical gadgetry. Wouldn’t use anyone else for our electrical works. He later completed a full install in the shed with great safety features

Rachael

Very professional service and such a pleasant guy. We would definitely recommend Callum.

FAQs

Yes, without exception. Fitting a charge point is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations, so it has to be done by a qualified, registered electrician and certificated at the end. We are NICEIC approved and OZEV registered, which covers both requirements.

Most straightforward installations are done in a few hours, from arrival to handover. That includes mounting the unit, running the cable, fitting the dedicated circuit and protection, testing and certificating the work. A consumer unit upgrade, a long cable run or trenching to a detached garage will take longer, and we will tell you that at the quote stage rather than on the day.

Most installations fall between £900 and £2,000, fitted and certificated. The final figure depends on the cable run, the charger you pick, and whether your consumer unit needs upgrading first. Every quote is free and no obligation.

Many older boards will not. Rewireable fuses, no RCD or RCBO protection, or simply no spare ways are all common. We check yours as part of the free survey and tell you straight. If it needs replacing we can do both jobs in one visit, with one set of certificates.

We install the main smart charger brands, including Ohme, Zappi and Wallbox, in tethered or untethered form. Tethered means the cable is attached and always there. Untethered is a socket only, which looks tidier and gives you more flexibility. We will talk you through which suits your car and your driveway.

Yes. Some chargers can prioritise surplus solar generation, so the car charges on what your panels are producing rather than what you are buying from the grid. If you have solar, or are planning it, tell us at the survey and we will factor it in.
